Abstract

1365768 Coated products KAY-CEE INDUSTRIAL PRODUCTS Inc 29 Feb 1972 [27 Dec 1971] 9356/72 Heading B2E [Also in Divisions B5 and E2] An adhesive flexible "fabric" article (the term "fabric" covers knitted, woven, non- woven and sheet materials) has a layer of pressure-sensitive adhesive superimposed over a "fabric" portion thereof and a layer of thermoplastic material interposed between the adhesive layer and said portion, the thermoplastic layer being impervious to the adhesive and thicker than the adhesive layer. The adhesive layer may be from 0.00075 to 0.002 inches thick while the thermoplastic layer is from 0.002 to 0.004 inches thick. The "fabric" may be of woven cotton or a vinyl polymer sheet and may particularly be a stringer 12 of a slide fastener element 10 having zipper teeth 14. The thermoplastic layer preferably has a melting point of 250-350‹F and may be of polyvinyl ester, vinyl ester/olefin copolymer, polyamide, polyester or polyacrylic resin. A release layer such as coated Kraft paper, wax paper, polyethylene or polypropylene may be provided over the adhesive layer. The article is made by casting or extruding the thermoplastic layer on a release paper, coating this layer with the adhesive, covering the latter with a release layer, removing the release paper and securing the thermoplastic layer to the "fabric" by heat and pressure.
