Abstract

The outer layer is clad with a foil of paper with a coating of siliconised polyethylene, the rayon or cotton fibres being applied by electrostatic flocking to give them a vertical orientation on the polyurethane. A woven or non-woven fabric, with a coating of acrylic resin adhesive applied in a dot formation, is pressed on to the ends of the fibres, and the foil peeled off to reveal the outer surface of the leather-like material. The purpose is to give a synthetic leather which is supple and poromeric, without being stiffened by excessive adhesives.
