900,876. Laminates. SYMFAR PLASTICS Ltd., and SYMONS, P. S. Sept. 27, 1960 [Nov. 19, 1959], No. 39333/59. Drawings to Specification. Class 140. A laminated sheet material suitable as a wall or floor covering comprises a decorated or patterned foundation material, for example a dyed, painted, or embossed cotton fabric, or nylon fabric, or paper, the foundation material having on at least the decorated side a translucent or transparent synthetic resin coating through which the decoration is visible, for example polyvinyl chloride or nylon, and, bonded to the other side of the foundation material, a sponge textured resilient layer, for example foamed polyurethane, foamed polystyrene, or sponge rubber. This layer may be bonded to the foundation layer by an adhesive such as polystyrene cement. A metal foil layer may be interposed between the foundation and sponge layers. The exposed side of the sponge layer may be provided with a hessian or rubber backing. In an example, polyvinyl chloride in liquid form is coated on to one side of a cotton fabric and allowed to set, and a thin sheet of foamed polyurethane is adhesively secured to the fabric by passing the superposed sheets through heated or other pressure rollers.
