Abstract
A thermoplastic composition for use in the production of electrotypes (see Group XVI), has incorporated in it an electrically-conductive filler, and also incorporated may be a p plasticizer, stabilizer, accelerator and lubricant. The thermoplastic material may be polyvinyl chloride, a copolymer of vinyl chloride and vinyl acetate, polyvinyl acetal, cellulose acetate, or natural or synthetic rubber. The filler may be graphite, carbon black, or a metallic powder. The composition may comprise 80 parts of a copolymer of 85 per cent vinyl chloride and 15 per cent vinyl acetate, mixed with 70 parts of graphite, 1.5 parts of lead stearate as lubricant, and 0.5 parts of white lead as stabilizer. Alternatively, it may comprise 82 parts of polyvinyl chloride, 110 parts of carbon black, 2.5 parts of lead stearate, 2.5 parts of white lead, and 30 parts of tricresyl phosphate as plasticizer, or 100 parts of the substance sold under the Registered Trade Mark "Hycar, OR15," a copolymer of butadiene and acrylonitrile having about 25 per cent acrylonitrile, 220 parts of carbon black, 1.0 part of stearin as lubricant, and 1.25 parts of sulphur and 1.25 parts of benzothiazyl disulphide as accelerators.
