Abstract

In the production of soft vulcanized rubber from mixes containing rubber, sulphur, a vulcanization accelerator, and an active filler which ordinarily would impart high Defo hardness to the vulcanizates, the proportion of accelerator and/or sulphur is increased to 50 per cent. or more above the normal proportion. There are described tests on vulcanizates containing a carbon black which has been produced by decomposition of methane in an electric arc or a finely-divided silica which has been produced by pyrogenous reaction from a volatile silicon compound, as the active filler, and the reaction product of mercaptobenzothiazole and cyclohexylamine, or this product together with hexamethylene tetramine, as the accelerator.
