Abstract

801,803. Door-operating appliances; spring catches. EVENSEN, S. B. June 6, 1955 [June 5, 1954], No. 16098/55. Classes 44 and 65(1) A floor spring is provided with locking means adapted to retain the door in the closed position. The door spindle 27 carries a crank 26 pivoted at 25 between a pair of lugs 24 projecting forwardly from a cylinder block 21, the rear end of which is provided with rollers 22 disposed within a recess 23 formed in a U-shaped frame 20 mounted within a casing 15. The forward end of the cylinder block contains a piston 28 carrying a roller 29 which is urged by a spring 32 into a notch 30 formed in crank 26, to hold the door in the closed position. The cavity for piston 28 contains an inlet valve 36 and a throttled outlet valve 33, whereby displacement of roller 29 from notch 30 is further resisted by hydraulic checking. The rear end of the cylinder block contains a piston 38 pivoted at 39 to casing 15, the piston cavity containing an inlet valve 37 and throttled outlet valves 34 and 35. Opening movement of the door thereby withdraws piston 38 and slides frame 20 in the casing to compress two springs 18. The final opening of the door, between 80 and 110 degress from the closed position, is checked when the engagement of roller 29 with the straight side of the crank serves to push piston 28 further inwardly. Closing of the door is effected by the springs 18, the movement being hydraulically checked by the valves 34, 35, and final closing being checked by valve 34 alone. The cavities for pistons 28 and 38 do not communicate with each other.
