Abstract

775,719. Door-operating appliances; pivots. VEREINIGTE BAUBESCHLAG-FABRIKEN GRETSCH & CO., GES. April 28, 1955 [May 7, 1954], No. 12236/55. Classes 65 (1) and 65 (2). A spring closer is provided with an additional spring device which comes into action shortly before the door reaches the closed position to assist the main spring to press the door into the closed position. In the floor spring shown, in which two springs 19 are compressed, as the door is opened, between a cross-bar 20, resting against lugs on the casing, and abutments 18 on a member 16 of H form actuated by a link 15 from a crank on the door pivot 11, the additional device comprises a spring 30 acting by means of a roller 28 on a cam 26 on the pivot 11, the cam being cylindrical over most of the range of door movement but cut away at 27 to allow the spring to exert a turning force on the cam when the door is nearly closed. The spring 30 surrounds a pin guided in a bush 31 in the casing and having a forked end (carrying the roller) with its lower limb extended laterally to work in guides 35. The member 16 is guided by rollers 17 running on flat faces in the casing, and is connected to a check piston 23. The cam face may be provided with recesses to receive the roller 28 and act as auxiliary rests. In a device for a door opening in both directions the roller 28 coacts with a notch in the cam to urge the door into a position in which the roller is central in the notch. A plurality of notches may be provided; a plurality of auxiliary spring devices may also be provided for arresting or increasing action.
