Abstract

581,078. Door actuators. PATRICK, H. H. March 29, 1945, No. 7935. [Class 65(i)] A door actuator and check, adapted for right or left hand mounting, comprises a dashpot cylinder a mounted on a door b, a volute spring f acting on a piston e, and a piston rod i whose forked end i carries three rollers m, the outer two bearing against a pair of channel section guides n<1> and the intermediate one engaging the slot in an arcuate slotted lever p which passes through the spaces between the guides and the free end of which carries a guide bar r attached to the door frame c. When the door is turned from the closed position through 90‹ against the action of the spring, the intermediate roller occupies an end of the lever slot shaped to prevent the piston rod exerting a turning movement on the lever. Appropriately modified, the apparatus may be used to move a door from its closed to an open position. A single roller, adapted to engage both the guides and the lever slot, may be employed, the dashpot valve may be dispensed with, and a bye-pass or a release valve may be provided to eliminate the dashpot pressure near the end of the piston stroke.
