Abstract

A pink form of zinc oxide is prepared by heating ammoniated zinc carbonate at 100-400 DEG C. for 1 to 2 hours until all the ammonia and carbon dioxide have been driven off. Another form of zinc oxide, which may be red, buff, salmon or brown, results from heating an intimate mixture of white zinc oxide, ammonium carbamate and ammonium acid carbonate at between 150 DEG and 450 DEG C. Ammoniated zinc carbonate is prepared by adding white zinc oxide to a solution of ammonium carbonate in 28 per cent ammonia water and blowing in carbon dioxide until no more solid separates.
