Abstract

Despeciated interferon, i.e. interferon active against animals other than the species from which it is obtained, is prepared by treating interferon with carboxypeptidase or aminopeptidase at a pH of from 7.0 to 8.5. The reaction is carried out in aqueous solution at 5-40 DEG C. for 1 to 12 hours. The enzyme is then destroyed by adding acid to pH below 6.0. The solution may be used as such after adjusting the pH to 7.0 or the interferon may be isolated by conventional means and then used orally or parenterally.
