Abstract

797,931. Engine valve gear. ABBEY, A. (Aktiebolaget Svenska Kullagerfabriken). July 17, 1956, No. 22124/56. Class 122 (2). [Also in Group XXVIII] A gaseous pressure-operated pump has mechanically independent differential pistons 11, 12, 13, 14, the pistons 12, 14 being subjected to gaseous pressure under the control of a valve 19 to cause the pistons 11, 13 to draw liquid from a reservoir 2 and to deliver it to an outlet 8. The differential pistons are returned by a plurality of pistons 32, 33 subjected to the air pressure, the arrangement being such that one piston must complete its return stroke before the working piston can supply the necessary air impulse to cause the valve 19 to change over. The valve 19 is provided at each end with a piston, the smaller, 25, of which is subjected to constant air pressure and the larger, 26, is selectively connected to air pressure or to atmosphere under the control of the pistons 32, 33. When the pistons 13, 14, 33 are in their raised position, air pressure is connected from a pipe 46 through the cylinder 42 through a groove 47 to a duct 40. When the piston 11, 12 completes its working stroke the duct 40 is connected via a groove 40a in the piston 32 to a pipe 35 which is connected to the cylinder in which the piston 26 works so that the piston 26 is subjected to air pressure to change over the valve 19. When the piston 11, 12 is in its raised position, the pipes 35, 40 are connected by a groove 23 in the piston 32 and when the piston 13, 14 completes its pressure stroke the pipe 40 is connected by an upper groove in the piston 33 to the chamber 37 which is connected to atmosphere, so that the piston 26 is subjected to atmospheric pressure and the valve 19 is changed over under the action of air pressure acting on the piston 25. In the intermediate position of the valve 19 during change-over, both pistons 12, 14 are subjected to air pressure. Specification 764,219 is referred to.
