Abstract
797,913. Automatic exchange switches. SIEMENS & HALSKE AKT.-GES. April 4, 1956 [April 5, 1955], No. 10331/56. Class 40 (4). In a co-ordinate switching system in which cross-point connections between horizontal and vertical conductors are established by the energization of appropriate horizontal and vertical coils, the contact means comprising magnetic members directly influenced by the coils, magnetic shunt means is provided for prevention of contact movement when one coil only is energized. Fig. 4 illustrates the type of switch in which connection between, say, terminals 1, 5 is established by a magnetic contact assembly, sealed in a tube G, by the energization of a horizontal coil A and a vertical coil C and is subsequently held by the energization of a vertical coil H1. Each assembly is provided with a magnetic shunt comprising portions M1, M2, Fig. 3, forming air gaps L1, L2 with the contact members F1, F2. When both coils C, A are energized the fluxes due to the coils in the gaps neutralize each other, the only force thus being that in the gap U attracting the contact members together. If, however only one coil, say A, is energized, the flux in gap L2 is opposite to that in gap U so that the member F2 does not move. The vertical hold coil H1 and the vertical operating coil C are placed on opposite sides of the contact gap to avoid false operation due to the simultaneous energization of HI and A in which case the nuxes have the same distribution as in the case of the energization of coil A only. The magnetic members are preferably operated at saturation level. The multipling of the contacts may be provided by strips of magnetic material or conductors coated with magnetic material. By this means the contact strips may be polarized and the connection held by permanent magnetic uux. In this case release may be effected by reverse energization of an appropriate horizontal or vertical coil.
