Abstract

1,205,145. Movable magnet switches. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. 24 Sept., 1968 [6 Oct., 1967], No. 45314/68. Heading H1N. A magnetically actuated switch for indicating relative movement of first and second objects comprises a magnetic contact unit 12 on one object (not shown) and two magnets 14, 16 mounted on the other object (shaft 10). The poles of the two magnets 14, 16 are arranged so that a " magnetic field extends between unlike poles of the two magnets " to attract the reed armature (34) away from a fixed contact (30) into engagement with a fixed contact 28. A permanent magnet (32) connects the contact (30) to its terminal 26 and its flux follows a path (A) to normally attract the movable reed. The contacts are operated for an angle of rotation of the shaft equal to the angle between the polar axes of the annular magnets which are adjustable to set this angle and the point of operation. The other poles assist the contact closure. Each annular magnet may have a plurality of poles.
