Abstract

An antioxidant composition for incorporation into synthetic rubber comprises a liquid or non-pulverizable solid antioxidant absorbed on kieselguhr. The specified synthetic rubbers are polymers of 1 : 3-butadienes or copolymers of 1 : 3-butadienes with styrene, acrylonitrile, isobutylene, or methyl methacrylate. The antioxidant may be a viscous acetone-diphenylamine condensate, dicyclohexylamine, or a mixture of dicyclohexylamine and another antioxidant, e.g. a benzylated cresylic acid, as described in Specification 712,447, [Group V]. Preferably 1 part by weight of antioxidant is absorbed on 0.75 to 3 parts by weight of kieselguhr. In one example, equal weights of an acetone-diphenylamine reaction product and kieselguhr are heated together in a mixer to obtain a dry powder easily incorporated in synthate rubber.ALSO:An antioxidant composition for incorporation into natural or synthetic rubber comprises a liquid or non-pulverizable solid antioxidant absorbed on kieselguhr. The antioxidant may be a viscous acetone-diphenylamine condensate, dicyclohexylamine, or a mixture of dicyclohexylamine and another antioxidant, e.g., a benzylated cresylic acid, as described in Specification 712,447. Preferably 1 part by weight of antioxidant is absorbed on 0,75 to 3 parts by weight of kieselguhr. The specified synthetic rubbers are polymers of 1 : 3 butadienes or copolymers of 1 : 3 butadienes with styrene, acrylonitrile, isobutylene, or methyl methacrylate. In one example equal weights of an acetone-diphenylamine reaction product and kieselguhr are heated together in a mixer to obtain a dry powder easily incorporated in rubber.
