Abstract

An hydrocarbon distillate fuel oil contains 10 to 100 pounds per 1000 barrels of a normal aliphatic primary monoamine having 16 to 18 carbon atoms in the molecule or a mixture of such monoamines, 3 to 25 pounds per thousand barrels of one or more alkylamines having 8 to 24 carbon atoms in the molecule and containing the structural unit: <FORM:0796427/III/1> to prevent the development of emulsifying properties in storage. Examples of the normal primary monoamines are octadecadienyl amine, octadecenyl amine, octadecyl amine, and hexadecylamine; examples of the tertiary alkyl, primary monoamines are 1,1,3,3-tetramethylbutylamine, 1,1,3,3,5,5 - hexamethylhexylamine, 1,1,3,3,5,5,7,7 - octamethyloctylamine, 1,1,3,3,5,5,7,7,9,9 - decamethyldecylamine and 1,1,3,3,5,5,7,7,9,9,11,11 - dodecamethyldodecylamine. The fuel oil, which may be a diesel oil, or furnace oil may be a straight-run or cracked distillate oil, and has an initial boiling point above 300 DEG F. and a final boiling point below 750 DEG F.
