Abstract

A middle distillate petroleum fuel oil, boiling between 250 DEG and 1,000 DEG F., is dewaxed and its low temperature properties improved by adding a minor proportion of a natural petroleum resin and then subjecting the mixture to refrigerative dewaxing, with or without an additional solvent such as propane or other light hydrocarbon. The amount of natural petroleum resin added is about 0.2 per cent by weight and is preferably sufficient to leave behind in the distillate at least a trace, to act as a wax crystal modifier for any residual wax. The natural petroleum resin should have a viscosity of 400-22,000 S.S.U. at 210 DEG F. Specification 782,853 is referred to.
