Abstract

A gasoline composition contains 0.00004 to 0.02% by weight of an aliphatic primary amine containing 12 to 22 carbon atoms, and 0.02 to 0.6% by weight of a paraffinic hydrocarbon lubricating oil having a viscosity at 210 DEG F. between 42 and 78 S.S.U. and a flash point of at least 400 DEG F. The composition may also contain 0.00004 to 0.0012% by weight of a metal deactivator of formula HO-R-CH=N-R1-N=CH-R-OH where R is an aromatic group and R1 is a bivalent aliphatic group or -R11-NH-R11-where R11 is a bivalent aliphatic group. The composition may also contain tetraethyl lead and a phenolic gum inhibitor. In examples, gasolines contain oleyl amine, lauryl amine, mixtures of tetradecyl, hexadecyl, octadecyl and octadecenyl amines, disalicylol-1,2-propylenediamine, di(2-hydroxy-benzal)-triethylene tetramine, and a lubricating oil; octylamine also is used for comparison purposes.
