Abstract
795,395. Indicating-apparatus. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO., Ltd. Nov. 15, 1956 [Nov. 18, 1955], No. 33086/55. Class 106 (4). [Also in Groups XXIV and XXX] A depth indicator for a mine winder installation comprises a coarse and a fine indicator 20, 19 moving concentrically and a connecting gear train in a box 11 detachable from the indicator casing 14. A bevel gear 41, secured to a shaft 38 driven from the mine winder drum at the same speed as the drum, protrudes into the casing 14 to mesh with a bevel gear 35 secured through a member 29 to an annulus 28 carrying the fine indicator 19 also of annular form. A bushing 49 pinned to a shaft 46 carries the coarse pointer 20 and a masking plate 52 and is driven from the shaft 38 through reduction gearing so as to complete about seven-eights of a revolution as the mine cages move from one end of the shaft to the other. The scale plates 17, 18, fine indicator 19 and annulus 28 are formed of translucent material and the scales 17, 18 and indicator 19 carry movable marks preset so that by observing the pointer 20 in mid-shaft and the indicator 19 near a landing position the winding engine man can land the cage in correct position. To ensure a correct indication, back lash in the gears is avoided by forming the bevel gear 41 and one gear in each stage of the reduction gearing in two coaxial parts interconnected by a spring (see Group XXIV). The gear-box can be readily removed for servicing and the front of the indicator casing 14 is closed by a glazed door 15 with sealing arrangements to exclude dust.
