Abstract
168,514. Howarth, O. Aug. 13, 1920. Special quantities, registering.-A maximumdemand indicator has two indicating scales and pointers, geared together, one indication being a multiple of the other. The motion of the meter armature is transmitted to the primary pointer through two shafts carrying arms to enable one to engage the other and provided with screws, worms, or other gearing permitting, relative longitudinal motion between them, so that a single turn of one shaft relative to the other may cause engagement or disengagement. Two pointers h, k geared together and working over separate dials so as to give a large range of indication are operated by gearing f, g, l, m from a shaft E, and are frictionally restricted by a brake r. The meter armature operates, through ratchet or like disengoageable gearing a, n, b, a shaft B under the control of a zeroizing-spring p. The shafts B, E move longitudinally in their bearings under the influence of similar worms c, e. An arm B<1> on the shaft B thus clears a zero stop q after one revolution and engages an arm E' on the shaft E to drive the indicators. When the driving-shaft B is periodically reset, its arm B' clears the arm E' after one revolution in a similar manner. The screws c, e may be replaced by other suitable mechanism.
