Special quantities, registering.-The driving member 1 of a maximum demand indicator is raised along a screw thread 2 of steep pitch by the engagement of a toothed wheel 4 with a long pinion 5, which is driven from the spindle 11 of an energy meter through gearing 12, 13, 14, the engagement between the pinion 5 and the wheel 4 being periodically broken by means of a relay 10, so as to allow the driving member 1 to return by gravity to its zero position. The driving member 1 engages a pin 7 on a graduated drum 3, driving it up the thread of the screw 2. A ratchet 6 prevents reverse movement when the driving-member 1 returns to zero at the end of each recording period, but may be released by pressing a button 15 when the meter reading is taken. The reading of the drum 3 is taken through a small opening 9 provided with a line or sighting pointer. Instead of a helicoidally graduated scale, the drum 3 may have a normally graduated circumferential scale displayed in front of an opening parallel to the axis of the drum and provided with a scale corresponding to the pitch of the helicoidal surface.
