Abstract

269,926. Sagnier, I. April 26, 1926, [Convention date]. Average speed, measuring directly.-Relates to apparatus for indicating average speed of the type in which an indicating hand is moved by two bodies which are traversed in rectilinear paths at an angle to one another by distance-driven and time-driven members respectively. The distance shaft D, which is driven by a shaft Z through a friction coupling I, has a screw thread engaging a nut C to which is attached a rack-bar B guided at its upper end by a slotted member G. A casing A containing clockwork mechanism is mounted on the bar B with a pinion K engaging the rack teeth. As the casing A falls under the control of the clock, a pin E attached to it displaces an indicating pointer F over a dial L, and at the same time the carrying bar B is traversed by the distance driven shaft D. The pointer F is mounted on a fixed pivot 0. The nut C is set back to zero by a knob M through gearing R. As the casing A is returned to initial position, the clock is wound up automatically. A speedometer, odometer &c. may be included in the casing of the instrument. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) was accompanied by several Figures which appeared to show a modified form of instrument but were not described. These Figures do not appear in the Specification as accepted.
