351,973. Supply meters ; speed indicators. FERRANTI, Ltd. and HOLMES, W., Hollinwood, Lancashire. Feb. 26, 1930, No. 39101. Divided on 353,485. [Class 37.] Maximum load indicating apparatus includes a friction clutch one member of which is constantly driven by the load spindle and the other member operates an arm to actuate an indicator in one direction only. When the clutch is released the operated member and arm are reset automatically leaving the indicator set. A shaft a, for example, the final summator shaft of the summation meter described in Specification 353,485, drives, through gearing f .. j and a friction clutch e, a pair of pointers c, d so geared that the pointer c makes 10 revolutions for one revolution of the pointer d. The pointers are driven by the engagement of an arm 3, driven through the clutch e, with a pin 4 projecting from a gear wheel k. At the end of predetermined periods of time, the clutch e is released by means of an electromagnet 2, the arm 3 being brought back to its zero position by means of a spring s while the pointers are held in position by a light friction clutch z. Air vanes t prevent shock during the return of the arm 3. Backlash in the gearing between the one-revolution spindle d<1> and the ten-revolution spindle l<1> is avoided by means of a gear wheel m meshing with the pinion l on the spindle l<1> and arranged with a 10: 1 gear so as to unwind a spring n for one revolution only.
