Abstract
559,669. Supply meters. WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC INTERNATIONAL CO. Nov. 30, 1942, No. 17032. Convention date, Dec. 2, 1941. [Class 37] Energy storage means is energized from the rotor and operates timing mechanism for introducing a time element in the operation of a maximum demand element. The rotor disc 2 of an induction meter drives counters 20, 21, 22, 23 through gearing 40, 41, 43, 44, 46, 47. The rotor also drives, through gearing 40, 41, 52, 53, 55, a gear wheel 56 which is mounted on a shaft 58 for rotation relative thereto. The gear-wheel 56 drives a maximum demand gear 50 through a crown-wheel 60 and pinion 62. In a recess in the gear wheel 56 is a spring 91 having its inner end fixed to the shaft 58 and its outer end frictionally engaging the wall of the recess. This spring is wound up by rotation of the gear-wheel 56 by the meter until its tension is such that its outer end slips with reference to the gear wheel. Driven from the shaft 58 through a gear train 90 is an escapement 80, 81, 85 such that the shaft 58 makes one revolution in 15 minutes. Fixed on the upper end of this shaft is a cam 70 engaging a fixed lug 71 and disengaging the gearwheels 56, 60 at each revolution of the shaft by slightly rotating the frame 73 carrying the shaft 58 and the escapement about a shaft 75. On disengagement of these gears the maximum demand gear 50 is returned to zero by a spring 102, a pin 100 then engaging a fixed stop 101. On forward rotation of the gear 50 the pin 100 engages a lever 111 and rotates a shaft 51 carrying the maximum demand pointer 110 against the friction of a leaf spring 112 engaging a disc 113. The counting gear and maximum demand register are mounted in a frame 11 carrying pins 13 which detachably engage sockets 14 on the meter and are secured by set screws 15.
