[Class 10] [See also Groups XI and XXXV] A pocket lamp comprises a generator 31, Fig. 1, driven by a spring 1, which is arrested intermittently. The spring is secured at one end to the axle 2 and at the other end to a flange on a gear-wheel 4 which is adapted to drive a ratchet wheel 27 through gear-wheels 8, 11, 14, 17, 19, 22, 24, 25. The generator 31, together with a disc 29 to which it is coupled, is freely mounted on the shaft 26. The wheel 27 drives the generator through pawls 28, mounted on the disc 29, in such manner that when the drive is arrested the generator continues to rotate owing to its momentum. A gear-wheel 32, fixed to the generator, drives a cam disc 37, Figs. 1 and 2, through gear-wheels 33, 35. The cam disc is adapted to actuate a two-armed lever 40, biassed by a spring 41, to stop intermittently the rotation of a ratchet wheel 20 secured to the gear-wheel 19. In another form, the drive is intermittently stopped by means of a balance wheel 45, Fig. 4, which is secured to the gear-wheel 19 and co-operates with a pallet 46 mounted, together with the forked member 48 and a weight 48<a> on the shaft 47. The member 48 engages a pin Z on an oscillating disc 50. The generator may be stopped or started by means of a toothed rack 54, Fig. 5, which is slidable in the lamp casing 65 and engages with teeth on the fly-wheel 30. A counter may be provided on the axle 2 and the spring may be wound up through a ratchet wheel 5 and pawls 6.
