[Class 27] In a prepayment meter having a synchronous motor 1 or other constant-speed driving mechanism for collecting a fixed charge, and an adjustable transmission gear for varying this charge with a device arranged coaxially therewith for adjusting and indicating the charge, the constant-speed mechanism also drives an actuating disc for effecting at predetermined times operations of an electrical or mechanical nature connected with the meter, and this actuating disc is arranged coaxially with the transmission gear and its adjusting and indicating device. As shown, the drive from motor 1 is taken to a gear-wheel 14 of the adjustable transmission gear whose driven wheel 15 is connected to the quantity mechanism. Gears 14 and 15 are loose on a central shaft 10 for adjusting the basic charge and carrying at its forward end an indicating pointer 9 working over a fixed scale 8 and at its rear end a stop disc 11 controlling the transmission ratio, for example, in the manner described in Specifications 423,438 and 458,962. The actuating disc 6 is loose on a fixed sleeve 4 coaxial with shaft 10, and is connected by a friction spring 7 with a wheel 3 also driven by motor 1. The actuating disc may be arranged to make one revolution per day, and be provided with adjustable riders for controlling current consuming devices or changing over from one counter to another with or without change in the transmission ratio between the meter and quantity mechanisms.
