Abstract
875,254. Maximum demand meters. UNITED GAS INDUSTRIES Ltd. March 17, 1958 [Dec. 18, 1956], No. 38514/56. Class 106 (3). [Also in Group XXIV] An intermittent drive of a maximum demand indicator or recording indicator of an electricity meter comprises a gear 33, Fig. 2, driven from the meter mechanism which is loose on a shaft 34, which carries a gear 32 driving the driving pointer 39, Fig. 1, of the maximum demand indicator. The gear 33 is adapted to be clutched to the gear 32 and shaft 34 by a spring 35 acting on a sliding collar 19 which is intermittently actuated by a fork 18 on a lever 9, an intermediate lever 12 and a cam plate 5 on a constant speed shaft 3 driven by a synchronous electric motor 1. Thus for each revolution of shaft 3 the gear 33 is clutched to shaft 34 for a predetermined interval of time, to drive the pointer 39 an amount corresponding to the average rate of supply over that period, and then de-clutched to allow the pointer to return to its zero position under the action of a weighted quadrant 40. The pointer 39 is adapted to move a second coaxially arranged pointer to a maximum demand position. The predetermined interval of time is made variable by mounting the levers 9, 12 on a support member 7 pivoted about a fixed pivot 16 and adjustable by means of a member 20 engaged by an adjusting screw 21 in a bracket 22.
