The arc shoot of a circuitbreaker is pivoted on a conducting member which carries the fixed contacts and which together with the moving contact assembly is mounted in a U-shaped housing of one-piece moulded insulating material. The housing 15 is mounted on brackets 17, 25 and supports in its rear wall 29 two terminal studs 31, 33 fixed to contact blocks 35, 37 and surrounded by insulators 32, 34 which are clamped into the housing 15 by nuts 44. A projection 113 on the contact block 35 carries a pivot-pin 111 supporting a bracket 115 attached by screws 117, to the arc shoot wall 119 and an arc horn 121. A spring contact member 123 maintains contact between the block 35 and the arc horn 121. A second arc horn 125 engages a resilient member 127 which is bolted to the front of the arc shoot 109 at 129 and 131. The bolt 131 also holds the end of a conductor 133 connected to the contact block 37. When the bolt 131 is removed the arc shoot can be rotated about the pivot 111 so that the contacts can be examined. In the service position the lower edges of the arc shoot 109 rest on ledges 135 in the housing. The fixed contacts are mounted on the block 35 and comprise an arcing contact 41 and a row of self-aligning main contacts 39 pivoted at 43 and urged by spring 45 against stops 47. A rod 107 operates the two flat metal switch arms 57 which are pivoted on the block 37 and carry the main moving contact 69. Pivots 73 on the moving arcing contacts 71 are retained in recesses 75 in members 57 by resilient members 77, and the contact 71 is. urged toward the fixed contact 41 by a spring 91 held against a bracket 89 on the contact 69.- A rod 97 having one end pivoted at 99 extends through the spring 91 and the bracket 89 so that its stop 103 can engage the bracket 89 to limit the movement of the arcing contact 71.
