Abstract

877,052. Switchgear structures. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. Feb. 14. 1958 [Feb. 20, 1957], No. 5722/57. Class 38 (5). A removable plug for bus-bar selection in horizontal drawout switchgear passes through an aperture in the circuit-breaker structure so as to be removable from the front of the unit. As shown for one phase the plug 17 comprises a copper tube 36 surrounded by a condenser bushing 42 and carrying a cluster contact 40 and an annular contact-member 41 with spring- loaded contacts 41a. An insulating rod 37 screwed into the tube 36 is provided with a flanged disc 38 carrying a handle 39. The breaker terminal 26 projects into a metal casing 23 and is clamped at 31 to a contact-member 28 embedded in a casting resin 33 and having annular contact surfaces 29, 30 selectively engageable by the contacts 41a. A metal ring 46 on the tube 42 co operates with flanges 47 on the casing 23 to support the plug, and a felt ring 44 prevents the plug from damaging the surfaces of the insulation 33. Screws 43 secure the plug in position and a plate 45 closes the aperture which is not in use. Interlocks (not shown) prevent removal of the plug 17 when the breaker is in service position. A plug comprising parts 38, 39 and 41 with a conducting member in place of the rod 37 may be used for cable earthing.
