Abstract

993,722. Switchgear structures. " COQ." N.V. June 6, 1963 [June 13, 1962], No. 22625/63. Heading H2B. A vertically withdrawable circuit breaker consists of a pair of fixed contacts 6, 7 separated by an insulating tube 8 and connectable by a sliding rod contact 5, the breaker being mounted together with its actuating mechanism on the lid of an earthed metal casing 1. The casing contains a cylindrical insulating member 2 in which the breaker slides, the intermediate space 3 accommodating bus-bars 4, cable connections 15 and being charged with insulating fluid. In the normal position shown the breaker contacts 6, 7 are in engagement with contacts 14, 17 respectively associated with a cable connection 15 and a bus-bar 4. In the withdrawn position (Fig. 2, not shown) contacts 6, 7 engage with contacts 18, 19, the latter being connected with the casing, permitting the breaker to be used as an earthing switch for the cable. The breaker is withdrawn through a linkage by a lever 24 and is held in either position by a spring-loaded latch 28. A pin 31 on a breaker-operating handle 13 prevents release of the latch, and thus withdrawal, while the breaker is closed. A probe may be inserted through a guide 22 to engage with contact 18 for measuring purposes.
