Abstract

793,864. Gas purifiers. HOLMES & CO., Ltd., W. C., FROGGATT, R. J. C., CULLING- WORTH, J. E., and COOPER, C. Sept. 22, 1955 [Oct. 8, 1954], No. 29010/54. Class 55 (2). A gas purifying apparatus comprises a cylindrical vessel 2 enclosing a plurality of superposed containers 1 for supporting the gas purifying means, each container 1 occupying nearly the full diameter of vessel 2 and having an inner duct section 7 which connects with the corresponding duct sections of adjacent containers to form a central duct, the weight of the containers 1 being carried solely by the central duct. As shown, the vessel 2 is mounted on supports 3 and the lowest container 1 rests on a flange 4 attached to supports 5 situated within a tubular extension 6 of vessel 2. The section 7 of each container 1 has integral flanges 8, 9, the upper flange 9 having a stepped recess 10 in which a flexible ring 11 is mounted. Flange 4 is similar'to flanges 9. The top of the central duct is sealed by a plate 12 bolted or clamped in position. The vessel 2 has a cover 14 abutting a flange 16 integral with the vessel and similar to flanges 9. Gas entering inlet 18 passes through sections 7, ports 20 in the walls thereof and through wooden grids 21 supporting iron oxide 22 to reach the outlet 19.
