Abstract

845,805. Nuclear reactors. SIEMENSSCHUCKERTWERKE A.G. May 20, 1958 [May 28, 1957], No. 16167/58. Class 39(4). In a nuclear reactor having different coolant and moderator the two are separated by an inert gas under pressure, this pressure being generated by the pressure of the coolant in the reactor show in Fig. 1, the reactor container 1 has three chambers, of which the lowest 2 is the coolant inlet chamber and communicates with the outlet chamber 4 through double walled tubes 6 containing fuel elements 8 and surrounded by moderator 11. The separating gas is contained in spaces 12 and 13 and in annular zones 14 communicating with space 12 through throttle devices 15 and separated from space 13 by bellows 16. In the reactor shown in Fig. 2, the coolant tubes 18 are U-shaped and coolant is confined to the upper chamber 4, entering at 20 and leaving at 21. The coolant tubes are surrounded by coves 22. Gas pressure is generated by reaction in the top chamber and transmitted by the pipe 25 and throttle devices 24 to the annular zone 23. The gas is purified in circuits 27 including permeable walls 26. The throttles and purifying circuits have leakdetecting instruments. D 2 O moderator and H 2 O coolant are referred to.
