Abstract

793,327. Internal clamps. BRUCE, A. W. A., and DANKERT, E. W. L., [trading as BRUCE & CO., O. H. G., A. W. A.]. June 26, 1956 [Dec. 6, 1955], No. 35001/55. Class 44 [Also in Group XXXII] A rear view mirror adapted to be carried by the handlebar 5 of a motor cycle or like vehicle includes a mirror proper 25, a mirror-carrying arm 13 and a radiallyexpansible plug 8 mounted between two abutments 1, 6, a bolt 3 passing through the abutment 1 and through the plug and having threaded engagement with the abutment 6 whereby the plug can be expanded into frictional gripping contact with the inner surface or the handlebar. The plug may be composed of natural or synthetic rubber, plastic or other soft but resilient material. As shown, both abutments 1, 6 are formed with teeth 9 to engage the plug 8. The abutment 1 has a branch 11 internally screw-threaded to receive the end of a cranked arm 13, the other end of which is screwed to a mirror support 15. The arm may be used in reversed position. The support 15 has a stud 18 carrying a part-spherical washer 19 a spring 20 and lock nuts 21. The mirror frame 22 has a protuberance 23 which is adjustably clamped between the washer 19 and a recessed portion of the support 15. The mirror 25 is held within the frame 22 by a spring 26 and a plastic or rubber ring 27 which engages a rim 28 on the frame. The protuberance 23 is arranged eccentrically of the frame to provide additional adjustment. Specification 735,168 is referred to.
