Abstract
Fluorescent pigment compositions comprise a fluorescent dye incorporated in a co-condensation product of an aromatic sulphonamide having at least two reactive hydrogen atoms and urea, thiourea, dicyandiamide, guanidine, malonamide, buiret or succinamide with formaldehyde, the amide-formaldehyde component not exceeding 50 per cent by weight of the total weight of the co-condensate and preferably about 20 per cent by weight thereof. Specified sulphonamides are o- and p-toluene sulphonamides, benzene sulphonamide, a - or b -naphthalene sulphonamides or alkyl derivatives thereof. The resins may be made either by separately forming the sulphonamide-amide condensation product and reacting it with a partially condensed amide-formaldehyde product or by reacting together the initial components. In the examples: (1) and (2) urea and paraformaldehyde are added to a resin prepared from a mixture of o- and p-toluene sulphonamides and formaldehyde, the mixture being heated, Rhodamine B and 6G added, the product being ground or dissolved in alcohols and ketones (3) dicyandiamide and paraformaldehyde are added to a resin as in (1) and (2), heated and the product mixed with Azasol Brilliant Yellow 6G. The resultant compositions may be used in printing processes. Specifications 769,344, [Group IV (c)], and 672,763 are referred to.
