Abstract

Pesticidal film-forming compositions are prepared by bringing together in a solvent medium 60-80 parts (by weight) of an aminoplastic resin, 40-20 parts of an oil-modified alkyd resin having a fatty acid content of at least 60 per cent by weight and a pesticidal substance in a concentration of 2-20 per cent by weight of the total resin and, within such range, sufficient in quantity to exhibit the effect of migration of the pesticide to the surface of a film of the composition obtained after evaporation of the solvent. Aminoplasts specified are urea-formaldehyde, alkylated urea-formaldehyde (especially butylated) and melamine-formaldehyde. Specified alkyds are castor-oil modified. Pesticides include dieldrin, erdrin, aldrin, D.D.T., and g -benzene hexachloride. Solvents mentioned are n-butanol and ethylene glycol monoethyl ether. To harden the film, a solution of sulphuric acid in n-butanol may be added immediately before application. Specifications 709,721 and 736,968 are referred to.ALSO:Pesticidal film-forming compositions comprise (i) a pesticidal substance in a concentration of 2-20 per cent by weight of (ii) and (iii), (ii) 60-80 parts by weight of an aminoplastic resin, (iii) 40-20 parts of an oil-modified alkyd resin having a fatty acid content of at least 60 per cent by weight, and (iv) a solvent, the pesticidal substance being, within the specified range, sufficient in quantity to exhibit the effect of migration of the pesticide to the surface of a film of the composition obtained after evaporation of the solvent.
