Abstract

An air-drying but storage-stable coating composition, which forms a paint film which will continually yield an exudate or bloom of pesticidal substance without the application of any additional hardening agent such as heat or acids before use, comprises (i) an organic solvent, (ii) a film-forming component dissolved in the solvent which is essentially a synthetic resin or a polymeric cellulose derivative and which is capable of forming a satisfactory paint film by simple air-drying, (iii) a pesticide dissolved or dispersed in the solvent, and (iv) a minor proportion by weight of the total composition of a dissolved etherified amino plastic resin. Component (i) may be xylol and/or butanol. Component (ii) may be nitrocellulose, ethyl cellulose, a styrenated alkyd, a drying or semi drying oil ester of an epoxy resin, or an oil-modified alkyd e.g. a short or medium oil length, linseed or linseed/tung oil fatty acid modified, phthalic anhydride alkyd and it may contain Co, Pb and/or Mn naphthenates in white spirit. Component (iii) may be g -benzene hexachloride and/or DDT, Aldrin or Dieldrin (polychloro-carbocyclic compounds), or Allethrin (an ester of chrysanthemum mono-carboxylic acid). Component (iv) may be a butylated urea-or melamine-formaldehyde resin. Many Examples are given, in all of which component (ii) is an alkyd resin, except in Ex (7) which discloses the following composition : - nitrocellulose in butanol, butylated urea formaldehyde in xylol and n-butanol, dimethylcyclohexyl phthalate, blown castor oil, butyl acetate, industrial alcohol, xylol, and DDT or Dieldrin. Specification 605,960 is referred to.ALSO:An air-drying but storage-stable coating composition, which forms a paint film which will continually yield an exudate or bloom of pesticidal substance without the application of any additional hardening agent such as heat or acids before use, comprises (i) an organic solvent, (ii) a film-forming component dissolved in the solvent which is essentially a synthetic resin or a polymeric cellulose derivative and which is capable of forming a satisfactory paint film by simple air-drying, (iii) a pesticide dissolved or dispersed in the solvent, and (iv) a minor preparation by weight of the total composition of a dissolved etherified aminoplastic resin. Component (i) may be xylenol and/or butanol. Component (ii) may be nitrocellulose, ethyl cellulose, a styrenated alkyl, a drying or semi-drying oil ester of an epoxy resin, or an oil-modified alkyl, e.g. a short or medium oil length, linseed or linseed/tung oil fatty acid modified, phthalic anhydride alkyd and it may contain Co, Pb and/or Mn naphthenates in white spirit. Component (iii) may be g -benzene hexachloride and/or D.D.T., Aldrin or Dieldrin (polychloro-carbocylic compounds), or Allethrin (an ester of chrysanthemum monocarboxylic acid). Component (iv) may be a butylated urea-or malemine-formaldehyde resin. Many examples are given, in all of which component (ii) is an alkyd resin, except in Example (7) which discloses the following composition:-nitrocellulose in butanol, butylated urea-formaldehyde in xylol and n-butanol, dimethylcyclohexyl phthalate, bloom castor oil, butyl acetate, industrial alcohol, xylol, and D.D.T. or Dieldrin.
