Abstract

The invention comprises a red pigment composition or pigment paste comprising the lead salt of 2 : 4 : 5 : 7-tetrabromo-3 : 6-fluorandiol and minor proportions by weight sufficient to impart anti-bronzing properties to the pigment composition of one or more rosin amines and one of the following acid red dyes: Acid Alizarin Red B, Violamine B, and halo-3 : 6-fluorandiols. The acid red dye may be used in its free acid form or as a water-soluble salt such as the alkali-metal or ammonium salt or it may be combined with the rosin amine as the rosin ammonium salt of the dye. Up to about 5% by weight of the lead salt of 2 : 4 : 5 : 7-tetrabromo - 3 : 6 - fluorandiol may be replaced by the lead salt of 4 : 5-dibromo-3 : 6-fluorandiol. Rosin amines specified are abietylamine, dehydro -, tetrahydro - and dihydroabietylamine, dextro - and dihydrodextropimarylamine and mixtures thereof. Halo-3 : 6-fluorandiols mentioned are 4 : 5-dibromo-, 2 : 4 : 5 : 7 - tetrabromo - or tetraiodo -, 12 : 13 : 14 : 15 - tetrachloro -, 2 : 4 : 5 : 7 - tetrabromo-12 : 13 : 14 : 15 - tetrachloro - and 2 : 4 : 5 : 7-tetrachloro - 12 : 13 : 14 : 15 - tetraiodo - 3 : 6-fluorandiols and diiodotetrachlorofluorescein. The compositions are made by mixing the ingredients in a conventional manner and are used in heat-set printing inks. Examples are given.
