Abstract
792,539. Luminescent screens. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd. Jan. 6, 1956 [Jan. 6, 1955], No. 424/55. Class 39(1). Drying of a luminescent screen is by dry gas from a cylindrical member with a plurality of lateral apertures designed to direct the drying gas away from the screen, the moisture of the latter passing by diffusion through a relatively stagnant layer of gas. The drying head for a C.R.T., Fig. 1, comprises a steel cylinder, the wall of which is perforated by holes 6, and a steel cap 7 to which is attached a conical baffle 8. In a modification, the cylinder is of porous quartzite with an inner tube provided with a small number of holes, Fig. 2 (not shown), the drying head acting as a filter. Air is used in drying the screens obtained by settling through a solution or suspension of barium nitrate and potassium silicate, or screens covered by a metal layer which has been deposited upon a carrier film of nitro-cellulose.
