Abstract

840,717. Thermionic valves. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO. Ltd. June 27, 1956 [July 12, 1955], No. 20182/55. Class 39(1). A gas-filled discharge tube has a disc anode enclosed in a screening chamber formed by surrounding annular members with screening discs in front of and behind the anode, and so arranged that radiation generated at the anode is prevented from passing out through the envelope, while allowing circulation of gas between the interior and exterior of said screening members through passages therebetween. In Fig. 2, the anode 1 is enclosed in a chamber formed by an upper disc 5, and a lower disc 6 forming part of the control electrode 4. This has a gauze part 7 which is surrounded by a further screen 9. The gauze may be omitted, Fig. 3 (not shown). In Fig. 5, the part 7 has been replaced by two cylindrical members 18, 19 of differing diameters which overlap in an axial direction. Fig. 7 (not shown), has similar screening members which overlap circumferentially. The embodiments described relate to hydrogen-filled thyratrons.
