Abstract

995,681. Discharge tubes. ENGLISH ELECTRIC VALVE CO. Ltd. March 20, 1964 [April 29, 1963], No. 16697/63. Heading HID. A discharge tube, e.g. a thyratron, has an envelope with an inner cylindrical composite wall providing a coolant passage 1 passing axially through the tube. The tube illustrated has a ring-shaped anode 4, second 5, 6 and first 7 control electrodes, and one or, as illustrated, several indirectly heated cathodes 12; the other members of the tube envelope, e.g. 10, 2, 3, 8 and 9, may be of ceramic. Coolant may circulate through the interior of the electrode 5, and this may be connected to the interior of the electrode 6 by coolant passages (not shown). Heated palladium hydrogen reservoirs 15 may be included in the tube.
