Abstract

1,043,544. Discharge tubes. RANK-BUSH MURPHY Ltd. April 2, 1964 [April 2, 1963], No. 13007/63. Heading H1D. In a discharge tube, a plurality of electrodes are supported within a cylindrical insulating structure, which is initially formed with a longitudinal slit, each electrode having at least one radial projection which passes through this slit and is secured therein by sealing together the edges of the slit. As shown, electrodes 1-4, supported on a mandrel 5, are each provided with two radial projections which are sealed between the edges of two semi-cylindrical glass parts 6, 7 of the supporting structure. Alternatively, the insulating cylinder may be divided into three equal parts, or two or more unequal parts, or may have a single longitudinal slit, and the electrodes may each have two longitudinally-spaced radial projections, e.g. tapes or wires, passing through the or each slit in the insulating cylinder. The insulating cylinder may form part of the envelope of a character-generating tube and may be sealed to a similar assembly through a disc-seal, the disc having a central aperture covered by a control grid, Fig. 2 (not shown).
