Abstract
807,390. Discharge tubes. PHILIPS ELETRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. (Philips Gloeillampenfabreiken N. V.) March 18, 1957 No. 8812/57. Class 39(1). In a discharge tube having at least two electrodes carried by disc-like supply conductors, the conductors being of or coated with titanium or zirconium and being spaced apart by a cylindrical insulator which is also part of the tube wall, the abutting disc-to-insulator surfaces are sealed together over a part of their area only. In Fig. 1 the anode-carrying disc 8, the grid-disc 7 and the cathode-disc 6 are separated by ceramic envelope parts 10, 9, 11. Between the adjoining surfaces is placed silver foil of less width than the ceramic parts, so that after the seal is formed the sealed portion, as shown at 13, extends only part of the way across, disc and ceramic being in direct abutting contact over the remaining part. An alternative construction is shown in Fig. 4, the electrode support disc 15 being separated from an outer ring 16 of the same material by a copper or silver sealing ring 19. In this case the seal is made in the centre of the ceramic parts 9, 11 instead of at one end.
