Abstract

1414392 Cathode constructions PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd 14 Feb 1973 [17 Feb 1972] 7223/73 Heading H1D A directly heated cathode 1 comprises a cylinder formed of oppositely wound groups of wire helices welded together at some intersections, connected to a conductor 5, 7 by radial semicircular flexible strips 8, both ends of each strip being parallel to the areas of the cylinder. The cathode is attached to the strips by an annular U-shaped member 2. Holes 11 in the conductor 7 communicate with non-evaporating getters. A screening cap 14 (Fig. 2, not shown) extends over the end of the cathode to prevent the escape of electrons emitted by the strips. To lower the resistance of the straps they taper towards the conductor 7. To improve flexibility they are made of two laminations.
