Abstract

791,420. Securing elements on shafts. PRODUCTIVE INVENTIONS, Inc. May 17, 1956 [Oct. 17, 1955], No. 15377/56. Class 80 (2). Means for attaching a member such as a windscreen wiper arm 42 to a support such as a shaft 12 comprises a casing 34 within which is a mounting ring 21 adapted to receive the support, and a lever 50 having an operating portion 51 accessible through an opening 33 in the casing 34 and a catch-engaging portion 54, the operating and catch-engaging portions forming a juncture J which freely overlies an edge 24 of the mounting ring 21 to form a fulcrum, and means 60 to normally pivot the lever to engage a support-engaging means 55. The shaft 12 has tightly splined thereon a supporting ring 14 having the greater part of its length externally splined to engage splines within the ring 21, the splines terminating short of the bottoms of the rings 14, 21 to limit axial movement. The casing 34 and the mounting ring 21 are secured together by an inwardly punched portion 34a and by a bush 31 and pin 30 on which are pivoted the channel 42 forming part of the wiper arm. The arm is urged clockwise with respect to the mounting ring by a spring 46, this movement being limited by flanges 35.
