Abstract
790,580. Pulling up plants. SUDAN GEZIRA BOARD, and BOBY, Ltd., R. Oct. 26, 1956 [Jan. 10, 1956], No. 889/56. Class 6(3). A machine for pulling up cotton plants comprises a pair of endless belts 17 which are pressed together and are inclined upwardly and rearwardly and a pair of driven pneumatictyred wheels 33 which roll on one another at the entrance to the pass between the belts, the wheels being inclined at the same angle as the belts so as to impart a strong initial pull to the plants. The machine includes a self-propelled chassis 10 having a driver's seat 15 and two pairs of wheels 11, 12, either of which may be steerable. A motor 13 drives the belts through gearboxes 23, 24, 25, the wheels 33 being mounted on the axles of the lower driving pulleys 20 for the belts. The plants are discharged through a shoot 30 into a receptacle 31. A plurality of belts may be mounted in pairs across the machine and the lower ends of the belts are adjustable relatively to the ground. The machine may be towed by a tractor, the belts being driven from the power take-off.
