830,497. Forage harvesters. MACHINERY SPECIALTIES PTY Ltd. Aug. 15, 1958 [Aug. 27, 1957], No. 27020/57. Class 6(3). [Also in Group XXX] A forage-harvester comprises a wheeled chassis 4 connected at its front end to a tractor in an offset position and carrying an open-fronted box-like body 18 with a rear wall 19 which is openable or removable, and also carrying a transverse rotary crop-cutter 14 ahead of the body into which the cutter delivers the crop through a shoot 16, a powertransmission 12, 10, 9 being provided for driving, from the tractor, the rotary cutter 14 and an endless apron 22 within the body and movable towards the rear thereof. The chassis is mounted on pairs of slewable rear wheels 5 and a single front caster 6 which is adjustable in height. The cutter comprises blades carried by chains 13. The apron 22 consists of a slat conveyer moving across a flat deck 17 of the body and is driven by a shaft 26 at the rear. The shaft 26 is connected to a pulley 28 on the shaft 9 of the rotary cutter by a belt 29 which is tensioned, to engage the drive, through the movement of a lever 31 carrying jockey-pulleys 30. A step-down arrangement of pulleys, Fig. 3 (not shown), may be provided between the axle 9 and the pulley 29.
