Abstract

790,245. Variable-speed friction gearing. TOMMASINI, E. June 16, 1955 [July 7, 1954; March 17, 1955], No. 17343/55. Class 80 (2). In variable-speed friction gearing comprising one or more pairs of oppositely-disposed cones 15, 16 with parallel axes and an interposed resilient transmission roller 24, aligned driving and driven shafts 6 and 21 are connected through bevel gearing 17, 18 and 19, 20 to the larger ends of the cones 15 and 16 respectively and the roller 24 is movable in a path axially aligned with the shafts 6, 21, while the cones 15, 16 are urged away from the gears 17, 19 by adjustable springs 35 to apply the necessary contact pressure. The springs 35 are disposed within the cones and abut against plungers 34 in pins 33 slidably keyed in the cones and secured to the gears 17, 19, the plungers 34 being adjustable in the pins 33 by screws 36. A disc clutch 38, controlled by a hand lever 42, is arranged between the driving shaft 6 and the gear 18. The roller 24 is carried by a fork 27 mounted on a threaded spindle 28 adapted to be rotated, for displacing the fork, by a hand wheel 32 through bevel gearing 29, 30. The roller 24 is in the form of a resilient ball or disc.
