Abstract
789,452. Refrigerators. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Dec. 3. 1954 [Dec. 11, 1953], No. 35109/54. Class 29 In a refrigerator having a butter compartment 7 mounted in the insulation of a wall e.g. the door, the closure 18 being on the inside panel 9 of the wall, heat is transmitted from the outer panel 10 to the rear wall 14 of the compartment through a body 22 of insulating and conducting material e.g. a mixture of mineral wool and glass fibres. Moisture condensation may be prevented on the outer panel 10 by disposing the body 22 also on parts of the sides, top and bottom of compartment 7 so that it covers an area of panel 10 larger than the rear wall 14. The heat flow may be equalized by having a higher proportion of heat conducting material towards the edge of body 22 than in the central part. To vary the temperature, a knob 20 is turned to cause cam 36 to force a plate 34 away from the rear wall 14 to compress the body 22 and leave an insulating air space at the rear of the compartment. The closure 18 comprises inner and outer spaced panels 30, 29 and a heat reflecting plate 32. In a modification, Fig. 3, the temperature control is omitted and the body comprises a central part 22a of the mixture and a surrounding part 40 composed solely of heat-conducting material.
