Abstract

Urea-formaldehyde resins suitable as fertilizers are prepared by reacting urea and formaldehyde in the mol. ratio of 1.3 : 1 to 1.6 : 1 at a pH of about 3.6 and breaking up the resultant resin. The urea is preferably added in solid form to an aqueous formaldehyde solution, e.g. formalin, preheated to 40-100 DEG C. The pH is suitably adjusted by an organic acid such as acetic acid. The preferred ratio of urea to formaldehyde is 1.5 : 1. Specification 712,178 is referred to.
