Abstract

788,575. Screwdrivers: spanners. ERICSSON TELEPHONES, Ltd. Nov. 30, 1955, No. 34239/55. Class 61. In a torque overload release screwdriver or spanner comprising a shaft 1 carrying at one end a screwdriver blade 6 or box spanner socket, the other end of the shaft has fastened thereto two collars 10, 11, two helical springs 8, 9 being provided around the shaft between the collars and an annular collet 14 between the springs, whereby torque applied to a tubular driving handle 16, fastened to the collet by screws 15 or other means, is conveyed through the collet, springs and collars to the shaft. The collars 10, 11 comprises nuts screwed on the threaded end of the shaft 5 and each fixed by a lock nut 12, 13. The springs 8, 9 may be fixed to the nuts 10, 11. The collet 14 has a smooth bore ; a flat washer may be inserted between each spring and the collet. When the resistance offered by the part in engagement with the blade or socket is less than the friction developed by engagement of the springs 8, 9 with the collet 14, the handle 16 and shaft 1 turn and the driven part is rotated. When the resistance of the driven part exceeds the frictional resistance between the collet and springs, the handle and collet rotate around the shaft.
