Abstract

788,299. Scaffolding. UNION JOINERY & IMPORTING CO., Ltd. Jan. 17, 1955, No. 1332/55. Class 20(2) Scaffolding for lofty structures, such as cooling towers, cast in situ with the aid of shuttering, consists of a series of separate cages X2 arranged side by side, each being provided with formations, such as hooks 21, permitting the cage to be suspended by engagement with a complemental formation, such as a rail 12, on the shuttering 11, each cage providing at least two decks 19, 20 one above the other for the workmen. The cage X2 is constituted by an open framework having sides in the form of a parallelogram, which sides can be adjusted to a desired angularity by means of extendable diagonal frame members 13, the decks 19, 20, being supported by horizontal frame members 16, 17. Extensibly adjustable feet 15 are provided on the horizontal frame members 16. The scaffolding may consist either of a series of cages X2 only arranged side by side. or a lower series of cages X2 arranged side by side. together with an upper series of cages X1 arranged side by side, the cages X1 being similar to the cages X2 but having only a single deck 18. In use, either with cages X2 only, or with cages X1 and X2 together, each cage can be lifted and hooked upon the rail 12 on the next higher course of shuttering to follow the progress of the casting, by workmen on adjacent cages either at the side, or above or below the cage being lifted. Safety rails 22 may be provided to safeguard workmen. Specification 788,300 is referred to.
